Don’t post Edo NYSC members to Bauchi, Borno – Assembly

By GABRIEL ENOGHOLASE

BENIN-EDO State House of Assembly has asked the management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC,  not to post corps members from the state to serve in the North,  especially in Bauchi and Borno States.

The lawmakers argued that the two states were not safe for Edo indigenes to do their national service because of the activities of the  Boko Haram sect.

In a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Festus Ebeha, he noted that the NYSC, which was created to ensure national integration had led to the loss of  innocent lives.

He, however, said that if the youth corps members must be posted to the two Northern states, there must be an insurance policy to secure their lives.

He also called for maximum security for corps members posted to hot spots in the two states or they should be redeployed  to states of their choice for security reasons.

The Edo State legislature urged the National Assembly to support and embrace the call, even as it urged the Federal Government to provide adequate security to the newly-posted corps members and the residents of the state.
