By Victor Ahiuma-Young

NATIONAL Union Banks Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFIE, yesterday assured workers in the financial sector of its readiness to fight, protect and defend their interests, even as the union unveiled its new leaders, elected at its recent delegates’ conference.

During a briefing at the union’s headquarters in Lagos, leaders of the union said it had uncovered plots by some individuals in labour movement to destabilise the union for personal gains, advising such individuals to desist or NUBIFIE will be forced to “tell Nigerian workers who they really are.”

Introducing the newly-elected officials of the union, its General Secretary, Muhammed Sheikh, said the delegates at the just concluded conference on September 15 in Lagos, returned Danjuma Musa as President, while Tony Apakpa and Johny Akwata, were elected Deputy Presidents.

He said: “Chinedu Ogbonna, Funke Hassan and Alfa Peter were elected Vice President. Onoja Matthew and Femi Makindiple, were elected National Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer; Akeem Balaogu, Onyekachi Emeka and Ibrahim Gynang were elected Trustees, while Kayonde Arogundade, Francis Ndife, and Adamu Garson, were elected Auditors. Similarly, Constance Agbaji, is female representative.”

The President, Musa, said NUBIFIE is an affiliate of United Labour Congress, ULC, of Nigeria, saying “people should learn to accept this and live with it. It is the decision of our members to be affiliated to ULC and not a personal issue.”
