ENUGU—THE 583 Secondary Schools in Enugu State are to be upgraded and equipped with libraries and Information Communication Technology infrastructure under a partnership programme between state government and the United Kingdom.

Special Adviser to Governor Sullivan Chime on Special Projects and Diaspora Matters, Dr Jude Akubuilo, who disclosed this while receiving the first team of professional teachers that arrived from the United Kingdom, said that this was part of the state government’s over all plan to ensure a rapid and sustainable improvement in the state education sector.

He said that the programme, which also entails the training of teachers and principals by their counterparts from the United Kingdom , would be implemented in phases, adding that 23 secondary schools would benefit from the first phase.

The authorities in the United Kingdom are fully committed to the programme and had pledged to ensure that it was successful and could be used as a platform to improve the quality of education particularly at the secondary school level all over the country, the Special Adviser said.

Dr Akubuilo disclosed that the poor state of infrastructure,  the general outlook and output of schools in the state had been a major concern to Governor Sullivan Chime.
