ENUGU—THE Enugu State Coordinator of National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP), Mr. Hycienth Ngwu, has commended Governor Sullivan Chime for lifting the ban imposed on the commercial tricycle operators known as “KEKE Napep” from operating in some parts of the state capital.

Ngwu while addressing jubilating KeKe operators at the federal secretariat in Enugu said the decision of the Governor to rescind the order showed his concern for the plight of the less privileged in the society.

The coordinator said the development would go a long way in fighting poverty among youths in the state.
He contended that KeKe had been a good alternative to commercial motorcycle operators in Enugu known as “Okada” stressing that their operation reduced cost of transportation to the barest minimum. Ngwu urged the KeKe operators to obey all traffic rules, identify with all their members and report any of their members who violate traffic rules to the appropriate authority.

Ngwu charged the operators not to capitalise on the government’s lifting of the ban to hike transport fare. “We thank the governor for lifting the ban. I intend to write the government to see how to partner with NAPEP to subsidize cost and acquire more of the tricycle to improve the transport system in the state,” he said.
