12 ambulances, 50 medical personnel for race

Organisers of the Glo People Police Marathon have secured 12 ambulances for the event holding in Abuja on Saturday, April 25. The ambulances will be stationed at strategic positions on the route to cater for emergency medical needs of the runners.

Peter Osamgbi, the consultant to the Nigeria Police on the Glo People Police Marathon, announced yesterday that five of the ambulances will be coming from the fleet of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) whose men will also patrol the streets to ensure compliance with road closure directives during the period of the race.

“In addition to the ambulances in the fleet of the FCT Police Command Medical Corps, we have secured five ambulances from the FRSC and one each from the Niger State and Nasarawa State Police Commands”, Osamgbi disclosed.

He further stated that all the water and refreshment points along the route will have doctors and nurses to attend to any cases that may be brought to their attention. “We are not just having people at the water points, but there will be nurses and doctors to attend to any case that may be reported at those points”, Osamgbi said. He noted that special cases would be referred to the National Hospital , Abuja.
