ABUJA—The National President of  Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Mr. Micheal Olukoya, yesterday confirmed the death of 37 teachers in Tuesday’s bomb blast that rocked Sabon-Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State.

This came on a day Christian youths in Plateau State condemned the daily attacks and killings in the state and called on security operatives to take steps to stem the killings and restore peace in the state.

Comrade Olukoya, who disclosed the casualty figure at a programme to commemorate NUT Founders’ Day in Abuja,  said several other teachers who were victims of the latest bomb blast were in critical condition in various health centres in the state.

He said so far, over 272 teachers’ had lost their lives to the atrocious activities of the Boko Haram sect in Borno State alone, while over 19,000  had been displaced in the North East since insurgencies broke out in the country.

It would be recalled that another blast occurred  on Tuesday  at Sabon-Gari Local Government Secretariat, while civil servants in the state presented themselves for verification as earlier directed by Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
