ASABA—Delta State Government has reiterated its determination to address the problem of perennial flooding in Effurun, Warri and their environs.

Speaking at the state Government House Annex in Warri, during the maiden meeting of the 11-man Effurun/Warri-Environ Storm Water Control Measure Committee, the state Commissioner for Works, Chief James Augoye, said the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration was committed to providing an enabling environment for Deltans to carry out their day to day activities without hindrance.

Augoye who is the Chairman of the committee said the problem of flooding was a disgrace to the state which he said had natural waterways that rain water could drained into.

Explaining that the committee was set up by the state government to look into ways of curbing the incessant flood plaguing Effurun/Warri-Environ, he disclosed that the committee had also set up a sub- technical committee that would carry out a field study of the flood prone areas and report back to the general committee in two weeks.

He said the committee would process information and make an official report to the governor next month.

The meeting featured presentations of a google map to identify the flooded areas, blocked natural water channels and places where possible drains could be constructed to connect to the natural waterways.
