May Day: Govt must invest in workers welfare, create more job opportunities — MSSNLagos 

"NLC, TUC have proposed N615,000 as new minimum wage"

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit (MSSNLagos) has called on the  Federal Government and the state government to improve on the welfare of workers and create more job opportunities within the formal and informal sectors.

The MSSNLagos made this call in a statement, marking the 2024 May Day Celebration, signed by its Amir (President), Kamoldeen Abiona on Wednesday.

Abiona noted that it is imperative for employers to create conducive environments that promote employee well-being, job satisfaction, and professional growth. 

According to him, by investing in the welfare of workers, the government can enhance productivity, promote job satisfaction, and ultimately contribute to national development.

“As we celebrate Workers’ Day, MSSN Lagos calls upon the Federal Government of Nigeria to prioritise the improvement of staff motivation, welfare, and working conditions,” he added. 

The Muslim Students body urged both the federal and state governments to intensify efforts towards job creation in both the formal and informal sectors. 

The statement reads, “Sustainable job creation initiatives are essential for reducing unemployment, alleviating poverty, and stimulating economic growth. 

“By investing in local production and supporting small businesses, the government can create opportunities for employment and empower individuals to contribute meaningfully to the economy,” it added.

Meanwhile, MSSNLagos, commended workers across Nigeria, particularly those who continue to demonstrate unwavering dedication and resilience in the face of societal hardships and economic challenges.

It stated, “This annual commemoration serves as a poignant reminder of the invaluable contributions made by workers from all sectors to the growth and development of our nation.

Despite the prevailing economic downturn and various challenges, workers remain the backbone of our society, driving progress and innovation in their respective fields.

“MSSN Lagos recognises the sacrifices made by workers, especially during these trying times, and applauds their steadfast commitment to their duties. We acknowledge the essential role they play in sustaining vital services, ensuring productivity, and fostering economic stability.

“As advocates for social justice and economic empowerment, MSSN Lagos remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote the welfare and well-being of workers. We stand in solidarity with all workers on this auspicious occasion and reaffirm our commitment to advocating for their rights and interests.

“May this Workers’ Day serve as a catalyst for renewed efforts towards creating a more equitable, inclusive, and prosperous society for all.”
