Strike paralyses activities in Kaduna

By Ibrahim Hassan-Wuyo

The strike embarked upon by Labour in Kaduna has grounded activities in the state capital, as tertiary institutions, banks, public hospitals, government offices, electricity company and others, remained shut.

State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Abdullahi Danfulani, said the strike would continue until government responded positively, and assured that all affiliates have compiled fully with the strike.

Students writing exams in some of the tertiary institutions were denied entry into the institutions by Labour officials who took over the gates.

As early as 7 am, the labour officials locked the gates of the Kaduna Polytechnic and the State Varsity to ensure compliance.

It was the same story at the State Government Secretariat, at hospitals, commercial banks and other financial institutions, as citizens were turned back due to the strike.

Activities at the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company were also halted by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).

However, many private schools defied the strike action as lessons were going on uninterrupted in some of the schools visited.
