Edo 2024: APC chieftain denies alleged arrest, wants police investigation into Benin shootings

BENIN CITY – A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State and President of Youth 4 Youth, Kelly Okungbowa popularly known as Ebo Stone has denied the allegation that he has been arrested in connection to the shootings along Airport Road penultimate Thursday that led to the death of a police inspector attached to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen. Monday Okpebholo.

The incident happened when the court reinstated the deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu entered the state capital and was on his way from the Airport.

In a statement issued by Okungbowa and made available to Vanguard, he also called on the police to ensure that all those who were responsible for the shootings should be fished out by the police.

He accused Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration of trying to divert attention of the publication which the utterances of his aides.

The statement reads “Contrary to false reports and misinformation peddled by some media outlets, I was not arrested by the Nigerian Police Force. I was not involved in any violent activity and did not engage in any conduct that would warrant arrest.

“I condemn the violence and senseless killing that took place at the airport, and I offer my condolences to the families of the victims.

“As a leader of Youth 4 Youth (Edo is not for Sale), I remain committed to peaceful advocacy and empowerment of Edo youth. I will not be deterred by false accusations and misinformation.

“I urge the media to verify facts before publishing and to refrain from spreading falsehoods that can cause harm to individuals and communities.”
