In a major show of support for the drive by Lagos state government to provide a safe and healthy environment in schools the Rotary Club District 9112 of Gbagada, Lagos, Wednesday commissioned a newly constructed six-room-toilet and a sickbay at Shogunle Primary School, Ikeja.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the primary school premises, the District Governor (2024 -2025), Rotary International District 9112 Nigeria, Femi Adenekan noted that parents, teachers and caregivers need to be at the forefront of ensuring a cleaner environment in order to eliminate deadly diseases like cholera etc.

Rotarian Adenekan said, “it’s a project that speaks to four of our seven areas of focus including maternal and child health, education and literacy, that is why it is within the school premises.

“As we are all aware of the cholera outbreak, we believe that if the pupils don’t have good toilet facilities they can’t avoid contracting some of these deadly diseases. We are trying to solve part of the challenges of disease control and prevention. It’s also speaking to maternal and child health.”

He was also happy that they provided an ultra modern sickbay that could be assessed by any child that falls sick while in school.

He urged the Parents/Teachers Association (PTA), school management and Lagos State government through the local government education forum to maintain these facilities in order to attract more gestures from them.

In his remarks, the President of Rotary Club of Gbagada, Lagos, Niyi Adekunle (2024- 2025) said Rotary International District 9112 Gbagada, Lagos is committed to a healthier society hence, the construction of the six room toilet and sickbay facilities worth N10.2 Million at Shogunle Primary School, Ikeja.

He said,”As it’s with the Rotary Club, you must always do good, move around your environment and community to know what they’re lacking and make them available.”
