League football resumed last week in Germany for the first time since the last round of matches was played on May 19th of last season.

Like before, Nigerian players who are plying their trade in Europe have started the season with their respective clubs and have featured again for their clubs.

Let’s take a look at them.

Friday

Victor Boniface played until the 82nd minute in Bayer Leverkusen’s late-winner win against Borussia Monchengladbach in their first match of the season. Nathan Tella was an unused substitute for Bayer Leverkusen.

Kelechi Iheanacho finally made his debut for Spanish side Sevilla in their 1–2 away loss to Villareal. The former Leicester City forward came on for Isaac Romero in the 77th minute.

Saturday

Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey both played the whole 90 minutes for Fulham in the 2-1 win against Leicester City, with Iwobi scoring in that encounter, while Wilfred Ndidi featured for Leicester City.

Joe Aribo played until the 70th minute for Southampton before being substituted by Matheus Fernández in their match against Nottingham Forest. Ola Aina played the full game, while Taiwo Awoniyi was introduced in the 76th minute. Southampton ultimately suffered a 1–0 defeat in the away fixture.

In the Championships, Semi Ajayi was part of the West Brom team that beat Stoke City away from home.

Elsewhere in Spain, Christantus Uche led the attack for Getafe in their goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano.

In the Italian Serie A, Samuel Chukweze was substituted in the 86th minute as AC Milan fell to a shocking defeat to Parma away from home.

Zaidu Sanusi was again left out of the Porto squad that defeated Rio Avre in a 2–0 victory. Also in Portugal, Bruno Onyemachi played the entire game in Boavista’s 1-0 away loss to Famalico.

Leon Balogun started for Rangers in their 6-0 demolition of Ross County but was hooked off in the second half due to discomfort.

Sunday

Frank Onyeka came on in the 78th minute for Brentford, as they were not able to avoid a 2–0 away defeat at Anfield.

Yet again, Jamilu Collins, because of a leg injury, did not feature in Cardiff City’s away draw at Swansea.

Currently in negotiations for a new club, Ademola Lookman did not feature in Atalanta’s 2-1 away loss to Torino.

In Ligue 1, Simon Moses was on target for Nantes as they comfortably beat Auxerre in a 2–0 victory at home. He was, however, hooked off in the 78th minute for Maucus Coco.

Raphael Onyedika featured throughout Club Brugge in their 2-1 away at FC Dender there in the Portuguese League.

Kenneth Omerou was an 88th-minute substitute for Kasimpasa in their 2-2 home draw against Adana Demispor.
