Managing Director of Royal Africa Youths Leadership Forum (RAYLF-AFRICA), Bello Bala Shagari, has commended Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit to Maiduguri following the recent flooding. Shagari described the visit as a symbol of the kind of leadership Nigeria needs at all levels.

Shagari noted that the gesture, although seemingly simple, demonstrates a level of sensitivity often lacking among those in power. He praised Shettima for his prompt visit to his hometown, where many residents are displaced due to flooding caused by the collapse of Alau Dam.

Shagari highlighted the significance of Shettima’s visit, saying, “The footage of him being driven through the flood in a truck, bypassing usual security protocols to reach the palace, is a remarkable display of leadership.” He emphasized that this kind of leadership is necessary to build public confidence in government.

Shagari urged that the visit be followed by immediate relief for the people of Maiduguri and proactive measures to prevent similar disasters in the future. He concluded that effective governance requires public confidence, which is often eroded by a disconnect between the government and citizens.
