ECCDE: Benue SUBEB trains Caregivers, others to improve learning outcomes

The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has commenced a two-day training for Early Childhood Care, Development Education, ECCDE, Desk Officers, Caregivers, and School Support Officers to expose them to teaching strategies.

Addressing the participants weekend in Makurdi, the Executive Chairman of Benue SUBEB, Dr. Grace Adagba pointed out that thhe training would help equip the participants with advanced teaching strategies to improve learning outcomes in Public Primary Schools in the state.

Represented by the Board Secretary, Dr. Joseph Jande, the Chairman who highlighted the importance of ECCDE, also known as Nursery Classes in Primary Schools, urged stakeholders to embrace the initiative.

She noted that “the school is available in all Public Primary Schools across the State to cater for children within the ages of two to five years.”

According to her, “the training would enhance the participants’ ability to develop effective lesson plans, improve assessment techniques, and foster collaboration among educators.”

The Executive Chairman called on teachers to collaborate with the board to revolutionize Early Childhood Education in Benue State.

She expressed gratitude to Governor Hyacinth Alia for his commitment to improving the status of basic education in the state and for giving special attention to the wellbeing of the Benue child.

Declaring the training open, the Commissioner of Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Frederick Ikyaan, commended the government’s commitment to implementing the ECCDE curriculum using the Reggio Emilia approach.

Dr. Ikyaan also commended SUBEB for initiating measures to advance education in the state.

The Chairman, Benue State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Education, Mr. Cephas Dyako, lauded the Board for its ECCDE initiative and assured the Assembly’s support for its successful implementation.

The Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, State Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Idzi who also commended the Dr. Adagba-led SUBEB noted that the ECCDE initiative would have a lasting positive impact on the lives of children in Benue State.
