Bayelsa community youths to elect new leaders

The Pro Chancellor of the newly approved Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, Bayelsa State, Senator John Brambaifa has given the assurance that the institution is set to take off as necessary preparations are put in place at its temporary site.

Senator Brambaifa stated this after a week-long engagement with stakeholders including the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri and visit to the temporary site as well as the inaugural meeting of the Governing Council of the University.

The entourage, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Brambaifa, included, Sir Richard Odibo, Dr. Doyin Johnson, Hajia Fatima Abdulahi, Hon. Christy Omuruyi, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Reginald Keremah, as well as other principal officers such as the Registrar, Bursar, Librarian and others.

The week-long activities kicked off with a visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, at the Government House in Yenagoa where key issues were discussed, particularly regarding the university’s take-off site in Bassambiri with the governor expressing his administration’s full support for its timely and seamless take off.

Diri reiterated the importance of the institution to Bayelsa development, highlighting its potential to drive agricultural innovation and enhance economic growth.

Apart from meeting with the governor, the Governing Council also held its inaugural meeting, which focused on addressing the immediate challenges that come with setting up a new institution, including infrastructural needs, staffing, and community engagement.

According to the Pro-Chancellor, “the council discussed these issues extensively and outlined practical solutions to ensure a smooth and effective take-off for the university.”

Brambaifa said: “We are confident that with the commitment of the council and the support of all stakeholders, the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, will soon become a center of excellence in agricultural education and research. We are moving swiftly to ensure that the take-off happens seamlessly and that the institution becomes fully operational in the shortest possible time.”

The Governing Council members and principal officers of the university also visited the proposed take-off site in Bassambiri, Nembe, where ongoing renovation works on existing structures were inspected.

Though the visit to the permanent site was postponed due to logistics reasons, the delegation led by Senator Brambaifa was warmly received by the chiefs, elders, and people of Bassambiri community.

They expressed their commitment to working hand-in-hand with the Governing Council to ensure the successful take-off of the university. 

                                        

“We are committed to seeing the Federal University of Agriculture, Bassambiri, thrive and will provide all necessary support to make sure this project succeed,” they assured.
