FOR the third time since August this year, gunmen operating in Anambra State have again attacked another police.

This time, the Divisional Police Station in Oba, Idemili South local government area of the state was attacked and a police corporal killed.

Last month, police stations at Nnewi and Nnobi were attacked and some policemen also lost their lives.

The state Police command which confirmed the attack, said the police corporal was killed after a petrol bomb was thrown into the police station by the gunmen who were suspected to be separatist agitators.

Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said: “The suspected armed secessionist group started shooting sporadically in an attempt to gain entrance to the police station and threw petrol bombs at the security facility which made some of the offices catch fire, including the Oba Civic Center.

“Unfortunately, a police corporal who was fatally wounded paid the supreme price, while the fire was put off with the help of other police officers on duty and the joint security responding team.”

Ikenga said the  police-led joint security forces comprising of the Army, Navy, Civil defence and other security agencies, are currently on the onslaught operation within Oba and its environments to apprehend the hoodlums.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam described the attack an invasion on the soul of a nation and

vowed to bring those behind the act to book.
