Independence Day Challenge: Nigerians urged to take pride in cleaner environment

In a move to foster a cleaner and more united nation, the Executive Director of Vintage Cleaners and founder of the #CleanHomeCleanStreetCleanNigeria initiative, Wale Fakuyi, has urged Nigerians to take part in the nationwide clean-up campaign aimed at transforming the environment and instilling a sense of national pride.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos over the weekend, Fakuyi emphasized the importance of individual and collective responsibility in ensuring a cleaner Nigeria.

“This initiative is not just about keeping our surroundings clean; it’s about coming together as a community, inspiring national pride, and making a difference.”

“We are calling on every Nigerian—governments, corporations, and citizens—to join hands in creating a cleaner, healthier environment for all.”

According to Fakuyi, “The goal is to inspire others and create a ripple effect that will reach every corner of Nigeria.”

The #CleanHomeCleanStreetCleanNigeria movement encourages all participants to actively clean their homes and surroundings, organize community clean-up events, and share their experiences on social media using the campaign hashtag.

Highlighting specific ways to participate, Fakuyi said participants could organize local clean-up initiatives, document their efforts, and invite others to do the same. “We want to see every home, street, and community looking its best as we approach Independence Day. We want people to feel proud of the spaces they occupy,” he added.

Extending a call to action to local governments and corporations, he urged them to support the initiative by providing essential waste management infrastructure and funding for community projects. “Proper waste management facilities and community education are crucial if we want to see lasting change,” he said.

The movement has also launched an “Independence Day Challenge,” asking Nigerians to share photos and videos of their clean-up activities and tag five friends to join in the effort. Fakuyi believes that this community-driven action will have a lasting impact. “It’s time we celebrate our independence by taking ownership of our environment,” he concluded.

The initiative aims to build a cleaner Nigeria, foster community spirit, and encourage national pride, with the hope that everyone will step forward to create a lasting impact.
