The Vice-Chancellor, Osun State University, Professor Clement Adebooye warned new students of the institution to steer clear of social vices that could lead to losing their studentship.

He stressed the University’s zero-tolerance for cultism and other acts of indiscipline capable of dragging the institution’s reputation to mud.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony for part-time degree students of the university at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Osogbo campus, he counselled the new intakes to remain focused on achieving their academic desires along with their profession.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Research Innovation and Partnerships, Professor Adetunji Kehinde, he said the university has also commenced a top-up programme which allows Higher National Diplomas (HND) to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in just 24 months.

His words, “As you embark on this academic journey, it is imperative to remind you of the core values that guide us as an institution. Osun State University upholds the highest standards of discipline, and we expect each of you to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing student conduct. Let me be unequivocal: any student found engaging in negative vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, or other forms of misconduct will face the full weight of disciplinary action, including possible dismissal from the University. We take immense pride in our zero-tolerance policy for any behaviour that tarnishes the reputation of this esteemed institution.

“However, as part-time students, many of whom are mature individuals juggling multiple responsibilities, I am confident that you will exemplify good behaviour and remain focused on your academic goals. You have the unique opportunity to venture into entrepreneurship or continue your professional work while pursuing your education.

“I encourage you to make the most of these opportunities but never lose sight of the importance of your studies. Excellence in academics and career can be achieved simultaneously with the right mindset and commitment.

“As part of our continued efforts to meet the evolving needs of our society, I am pleased to announce that our University now offers a top-up programme that allows holders of Higher National Diplomas (HND) to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in just 24 months, spanning six semesters. This initiative is available in various fields, including Accounting, Building, Sociology, and other disciplines offered by the University. This opportunity reflects our unwavering commitment to providing flexible and accessible education for all”.
