Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a transformative initiative aimed at equipping 12,000 youths with essential digital skills.

The initiative, unveiled on Monday during the official launch of the event titled, “Digital Skill Acquisition For Youths in Oyo,” is set to empower young people in the state, preparing them for the demands of the modern workforce.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Chairman of the Oyo State Youth Development Agency, Mr. Adebowale Falana, emphasised the urgency of the initiative, stating that: “The world is changing practically on a daily basis, and it is imperative for our government to provide our youths with the necessary skills to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape.”

Falana noted the critical role of technology in today’s society, stating, “We live in an age where technology dictates the pace of progress. It is essential for our youth to be equipped with the skills needed to thrive in this rapidly changing environment.”

He pointed out that those lacking digital skills risk becoming unemployable, regardless of their educational background.

“The programme aims to empower youths aged 18–35 residing in Oyo State, with an initial focus on training 3,000 participants, including graduates, semi-graduates, and O’level holders.”

“Our goal is to enhance their competitiveness in the labor market and promote self-reliance.”

“This programme is not just about acquiring digital skills; it’s about unlocking potential. Participants will learn to harness technology for problem-solving, fostering creativity and critical thinking.”

“Whether aspiring to be web developers, digital marketers, or entrepreneurs, the initiative promises limitless opportunities.”

“Oyo State has long been known for its talent and ingenuity, and this initiative aligns with Governor Makinde’s vision for youth empowerment.”

“The curriculum will be designed in collaboration with industry experts to ensure relevance and alignment with current market demands.”

Falana urged all young people in the state to take advantage of the opportunity, emphasising the importance of embracing new challenges, saying, “It is through these challenges that you will grow and flourish.”

He also expressed gratitude to partners and stakeholders for their commitment to youth development, highlighting the collaborative effort required to create a robust framework that enhances digital literacy and fosters innovation.

Falana called for collective action to build a future where youths are not merely participants in the digital economy but leaders and pioneers.

“Together, we can create an Oyo State where every young person has the opportunity to succeed,” he concluded.
