The 21st Century Youths of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience (21st CYNDAC) has called on the governments of Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta States to provide modern transportation market boats in all riverine communities.

This appeal comes as a response to the suffering and hardships faced by residents due to lack of facilities and high transportation costs.

In a statement, Coordinator Izon Ebi emphasized that the state governments, beneficiaries of the 13% derivation, must prioritize the welfare of riverine communities, which bear the brunt of oil exploration. Ebi highlighted the struggles of fishermen and traders, who face increased fuel costs and transportation challenges.

The group advocates for the provision of modern market boats and transportation vessels to alleviate poverty, reduce crime, and create employment opportunities. They argue that the recent increase in federal allocations and 13% derivation funds should be utilized to address the plight of rural communities.

21st CYNDAC stresses that the state and local governments must take responsibility for protecting lives and property in riverine communities, rather than relying solely on federal palliatives. The group urges the governors to take proactive measures to mitigate the effects of fuel price increases and transportation costs, which have led to widespread poverty, hunger, and death in the region.
