Rotary club holds capacity building seminar for teachers in Delta

Rotary club of Ubeji, District 9141, Delta state, has called on educationists in the country to combine modern teaching techniques with emotional intelligence to raise quality students.

President of the club Rotarian Emmanuel Etsano gave the advise at a one day capacity building seminar for teachers organized by the club for over two hundred teachers drawn from 38 schools in Ubeji community, Warri south local government area.

The Rotary president said the seminar with the theme: “Capacity building for teaching effectiveness” is in collaboration with the Center for Education Development, Abuja, adding that it’s a part of Rotary’s international month of basic education and literacy.

He said : ” It is one of the seven areas of focus of the global organization in tackling illiteracy and ensuring a solid foundation for the children especially at the formative stage of a child’s education.

“Rotary seeks to take major global and community challenges such as poverty, environment sustainability amongst others through strategic literacy advocacy. One way to transform a society is to ensure those in the educational institution get the requisite training to equip the young ones with the right knowledge and values for their personal and social development.

“The training of over 200 teachers from 38 schools in Ubeji is strategically to empower teachers and school administrators with high professional skills which would translate to the training of their learners to be globally competitive.

“The One- day Teachers capacity building seminar organized by the Rotary clubs of Ubeji, District 9141 is aimed at building competent teachers and instructors and positioning them for the emerging challenges in the education sectors.

The resource person who is also the Director of the center for education Development, Mr Afolabi Adun taught the participants application of emotional intelligence, class room engagement techniques as well as communication skills that would get the most out of their learners.

Mr Adun while addressing them on the right attitude to work ethics charged teachers to adopt modern skills that would mold productive learners, emphasizing practical teaching approach which he said creates a paradigm shift from certification to skill acquisitions in a world driven by technology.

The immediate past president of the Rotary club of Ubeji, Rtn. Daniel Edemayibo and Proprietor of Best Group of schools, Ubeji, other participants appreciated Rotary club of Ubeji for the opportunity to learn new skills that would facilitate their services.

They added that the knowledge gained would help in building an effective administrative system which in turn improves teaching and learning experience in the classroom.

The Director of the center for education development, Mr Adun presented certificates to the participants .The Rotary club of Ubeji also got a certificate for its commitment to improving education in its locality.
