In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, MC Bongo J opened up about his vision for societal growth, the role of comedy in promoting development, and the untapped potential in Nigeria’s entertainment sector. His approach to comedy transcends entertainment, diving deep into social issues such as unemployment, education, and the need for government support of local talents.

“Comedy is More Than Just Jokes; It’s a Voice for Change”

For MC Bongo J, comedy has always been intertwined with societal issues. Rather than simply cracking jokes about daily struggles, he weaves messages of hope and empowerment into his performances. “Growing up, I saw a lot of talent go to waste because there were no opportunities. Comedy became my outlet, but it also became my way of speaking up for those who couldn’t.”

During the event, he uses humor to dissect the country’s problems while also offering practical solutions. He cited Nollywood’s success as proof that entertainment can be a revenue-generating sector for Nigeria. “Look at Nollywood,” he said. “It’s the second-largest film industry in the world in terms of output, and it has created jobs for thousands of Nigerians. If we apply the same level of seriousness to comedy and other forms of entertainment, imagine what we could achieve.”

In particular, MC Bongo J stressed the need for better infrastructure for the arts. He urged the government to build more theaters, invest in film schools, and create grants for young creatives. “We need spaces where we can practice our craft and develop our skills.
