Tragedy Strikes Lagos: One dead, another injured in mini bus accident

A fatal accident occurred on CMS Bridge, near UBA, Lagos Island, on Tuesday, claiming one life and leaving another person injured.

According to reports, a commercial Suzuki mini vehicle (EPE 718 HR) rammed into a stationary containerized truck at approximately 6:15 am. The truck driver had temporarily halted the vehicle due to a mechanical malfunction.

The mini bus driver died on the spot due to the impact, while a female passenger sustained severe eye injuries and was rushed to General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island.

LASTMA personnel, along with officers from the Ebute-Ero Police Division, LASMABUS, and LASEMA Response Unit, responded swiftly to the scene.

General Manager, LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations.

Separate Incident: SUV Veers Off Road, Plunges into Drainage

A solo accident occurred on the Lekki-Ajah Expressway near Salem, involving a Chevrolet Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a drainage ditch due to suspected brake failure and excessive speeding.

No casualties or injuries were reported. LASTMA personnel managed traffic flow and contacted LASEMA Response Unit for immediate evacuation.

Bakare-Oki stated, “This incident highlights the risks posed by excessive speeding and neglect of routine vehicle maintenance.”
