Why I haven’t made films for the big screen for a while – Emem Isong

By Benjamin Njoku

Renowned female producer and director Emem Isong-Misodi, has been in the country for a while, putting finishing touches for the hosting of the second edition of her film festival, the African Cultural Film Festival, AFRICUFF, holding on Friday, October 25 and 26 in Houston, the United States.

She recently organized a pre-festival party and celebration of her PhD award, which she recently bagged in film studies. The party which held in Lagos, had in attendance the AFRICUFF ambassadors including Ruth Kadiri, Monalisa Chinda-Coke, Uduak Isong among other guests.

Before relocating to the United States years bac, Emem produced classical movies such as “Shattered Illusion”, “The Breaking Point,” “Reloaded,” “Private Sin,” “Rumours”, “She Devi,” and the dance-movie, “I ‘ll Take My Chance” among others

In a chat with NollyNow she revealed why she hasn’t hit the location to make films for the big screen in recent times. She said her inability to make films for the big screen was deliberate, as she’s currently occupied with a lot of things, including building her YouTube Channel, and her PhD programme that she has just completed.

“I am still making film right now. Though I’m busy building my YouTube channel. Yes, I haven’t made any film for the big screen. It’s deliberate. I want things to align before I can hit the location to make cinnamic films. I will soon do so. Although I did a film in collaboration with my sister and brother,” Emem said.

On the theme of this year’s AFRICUF, Emem said it’s pegged on “Cultural resilience” which is in line with promotion of the cultural heritage of the black race. She added that they have received many entries from Nigeria, Egypt, America and Uganda.
