Abuja mob attacks, strips crossdresser

A yet-to-be identified crossdresser in Abuja has been harassed and stripped by a mob.

In a viral video on social media, the crossdresser was confronted at night and despite attempting to walk away from the scene, the assailants threw derogatory comments and provocative stance at him.

Consequently, the crossdresser was stripped off in public, however, he was later freed with a cautionary warning against wearing similar clothing in public.

Recall that the House of Representatives in 2022 assessed a bill seeking to ban crossdressing in Nigeria.

A proposed amendment to Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act (SSMPA) seeks to ban crossdressing, defining it as wearing clothes typically associated with the opposite sex.

However, there’s an exception for theatrical performances or genuine public entertainment, and if passed, crossdressers could face up to six months in jail if they don’t conform.
