The proposed nationwide protest against the hardship in the country did not take place across Ondo State today.
Despite warnings from the Federal Government and the Nigerian Police Force, the organizers of the planned protest had vowed to proceed. Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and activist leading the protest, had insisted that the demonstration would be peaceful and held nationwide.
However, the major streets of Akure, the state capital, remained calm, with no signs of protests. Normal business and commercial activities continued across the city.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command issued a statement urging residents to remain patriotic and not join any group that could disrupt the nation’s Independence Day celebrations.
The statement, signed by the Police Command’s spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, emphasized that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the activation of all security measures to ensure a peaceful celebration with no incidents.
Odunlami also advised parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against participating in any activities that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives and property of all citizens and confirmed that security forces would be on high alert to apprehend anyone violating the law during the celebrations.
