The Minister of State for Defence, H.E. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has arrived in Sokoto for the second time in two months to re-strategize efforts in the fight against banditry and kidnapping in the Northwest, and to boost the morale of troops on the frontlines.

The visit, mandated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, comes amid a resurgence of bandit activities in the region. It underscores the federal government’s determination to eliminate banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities threatening the region’s stability.

Reaffirming the government’s resolve, Matawalle said, “As directed by Mr. President, I am back in Sokoto to assure the people of our commitment to achieving all necessary benchmarks in the fight against insecurity. We will never leave you alone, and I assure you, we will win this war against bandits and those supporting them.”

The Minister expressed confidence in the ongoing military operations, particularly Operation “Fansan Yamma,” aimed at neutralizing criminal elements in the region. He emphasized the importance of political cooperation, urging leaders across party lines to support President Tinubu’s efforts for lasting peace.

Matawalle also issued a stern warning to bandits and their supporters, stating that the government would not relent in its mission to flush out all criminal elements. “We will not allow them to breathe or move freely. No matter how they try to blackmail or propagate mischief against our operations, we will remain resolute in securing the lives and properties of our people,” he said.
