NAHCON: Prof Usman assumes office as Ag Chairman

The Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullah Saleh Usman, formally arrived office Wednesday at the Hajj House in Abuja after embarking on a short trip on medical grounds. His arrival marks the beginning of his interim leadership, pending confirmation by the Senate as the substantive Chairman and CEO of the commission.

Professor Usman, who previously held various key positions in the public sector, was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has a wealth of experience in Hajj operations and is expected to guide the Commission during this transitional period.

Speaking at the brief reception held in his honor, Prince Aliu Abdulrazaq expressed delight and gratitude at having the Chairman assume office and called on Staff to give him maximum cooperation towards the success of the Commission and in order to achieve its vision and mission. He further called on staff to have the fear of Allah in executing their tasks while acknowledging the importance of continuity, particularly in the face of preparations for the upcoming 2025 Hajj.

The Secretary to the Commission, Dr. Rabiu Abdullahi Kontagora also warmly welcomed the Chairman to the Commission and expressed how hardworking the Staff of the Commission are and are committed and confident in his leadership. Further reiterating the diligence of the Commission Staff, Director, Administration and Human Resources Management, Babagana Bukar emphasised on the remarkable ability and diligence of staff towards their duties and can exceed expectation with a little push and motivation.

Responding on behalf of the Chairman/CEO’s entourage, Dr. Shehu Makarfi appreciated the warm reception accorded the Chairman and also used the opportunity to thank all for their support and expressed his willingness to work with all towards uplifting the Commission.

The Acting Chairman’s tenure will focus on preparing the Commission for the next phase of 2025 Hajj operations, including finalizing the Commission’s strategic plans and addressing challenges faced during previous Hajj operations.

Pending his confirmation by the Senate, Professor Usman will continue to oversee all Hajj-related activities, working closely with the government and other stakeholders to ensure a successful Hajj pilgrimage for Nigerian pilgrims.
