Ogun assures investors of secured investments in tourism industry

The Ogun State government has pledged to enhance security measures to make the state more appealing for investment, particularly in its vibrant tourism sector.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this commitment to potential investors during the 2024 World Tourism Day celebration, themed “Tourism and Peace,” held at Herbert Ogunde Hall, Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta. He emphasized that peace is essential for tourism to thrive.

Represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor stated, “Our administration will continue to invest in security, infrastructure, and human capital development to ensure Ogun State becomes a safe and preferred destination for all.”

Hon. Olusesan Fagbayi, the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, delivered the speech of United Nations Secretary General António Guterres. He noted that this year’s theme highlights the deep connection between tourism and peace, as tourism fosters cultural exchange and understanding among diverse communities. The UN Secretary General remarked that valuing and preserving cultural and natural heritage can help mitigate tensions and promote global coexistence.

In his keynote address, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, Chairman of the House Committee on Culture and Tourism, reiterated the symbiotic relationship between tourism and peace. He stressed that responsible tourism can cultivate empathy and harmony, fostering strong community ties.

Dr. Kukoyi Ibrahim, a lecturer from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, presented a paper titled “Tourism and Peace: A Pathway to Global Harmony and Economic Prosperity.” He emphasized sustainable tourism practices as vital for fostering cultural exchange and driving economic growth.

Prince Abiola Ogundeko, CEO of First Heritage Culture and Hospitality Limited, also spoke on “Tourism and Economic Development,” highlighting tourism’s potential to generate revenue, create jobs, and preserve cultural heritage. He advocated for a focus on cultural, eco-tourism, and religious tourism, along with strategic investments in infrastructure and marketing.

Dr. Yusuff Quudus, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, underscored the theme’s importance in promoting understanding and cooperation among nations. He affirmed tourism’s unique ability to bridge divides and encourage peaceful coexistence.

In closing, he stated, “The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is committed to harnessing tourism to build a united, peaceful, and prosperous society. As we celebrate World Tourism Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to using tourism as a tool for peace, creating a future where travel fosters understanding and global harmony.”
