A star-studded cast, including Bimbo Manuel, Gregory Ojefua, McPashun, and Gaji Samuel, gathered for the private screening of the highly anticipated movie First Chronicles of the Island at Blue Pictures Cinema, Onikan, Lagos, on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Manuel expressed his delight in being part of the project, noting that every actor brought their best to the production. He shared his excitement for the film’s release, anticipating positive feedback from audiences and emphasising the lessons viewers will gain from the movie.

“Everybody is extremely important, and this one in particular is interesting for me to play, because some of my schoolmates, my juniors, put this together. I am hoping that people will watch it and learn valuable lessons,” Manuel said.

The veteran actor acknowledged that working with a professional team, including Segun Arinze and others, made the process smooth, with minimal challenges.

Gregory Ojefua, who portrayed the Chairman of the Island Local Government in the movie, explained his character as an illiterate man who abuses power and faces little to no consequences. He described the portrayal as a reflection of real-life figures, adding that he hopes the character will provoke viewers to demand better leadership.

“People only complain, they try to stand up for themselves, but nothing happens. You’ll recognise some real-life people in this character, and I hope it annoys you enough to encourage those people to do better. I pray such people see it and realise that they need to improve,” Ojefua remarked.

Highlighting the film’s uniqueness, Ojefua said it “speaks truth to power” and is delivered in a bold, distinct style. He praised the mix of documentary, voiceover, and mockumentary elements, calling it “a bold and unique style.”

Director Austine Lordlaz echoed this sentiment, emphasising the unconventional nature of the film. He explained that First Chronicles of the Island explores various societal issues, including global warming, poor customer service, and fake lifestyles, all presented through satire.

“First Chronicles of the Island is not a conventional movie. We delved into what some may consider daring. The film tackles human behaviours, especially during crises like COVID-19 and Ebola. We address global warming, poor customer service, and fake life, all woven together in a mockumentary style,” Lordlaz said.

Working with veteran actors was an “amazing” experience for Lordlaz. He described the cast, including Bimbo Manuel and Segun Arinze, as highly professional and punctual.

“They are senior men. Working with them was an interesting ride, and I say congratulations to every one of them. They have great talent,” Lordlaz added.

McPashun, who played Mr. Dumba, described his character as a disorganised man trying to fit into society. He emphasised the importance of consistency for actors, urging them to keep evolving in their craft.

“They may not get it right at first, but consistency is key. I’ve evolved in my work over the years, and actors will continue to grow if given the chance,” McPashun stated.

Gaji Samuel, who portrayed a landlord in the film, praised the movie’s entertainment value and guaranteed viewers an enjoyable experience.

“My experience in this movie was wonderful. I can guarantee you will love it, from the opening scene to the last. If not, I’ll refund your money!” Samuel joked.

First Chronicles of the Island features a diverse cast of top Nollywood actors, including Afeez Oyetoro (Saka), Linda Osifo, Bishop Imeh (Okon Lagos), Kiki Omeili, Jude Orhorha, Monkals, and many others. The movie promises to be both thought-provoking and entertaining, offering a fresh cinematic experience.
