The 2023 Governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State, and a member of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Hon. Jonathan Asake has said that there’s no crisis in the Labour Party, insisting that the party was in a period of transition.

Asake who spoke in Kaduna at the formal presentation of the party flags to its candidates for the October 19 local government Chairmanship election in Kaduna State, said “There is no crisis in the Labour Party. It is a family affair. It is an association of like-minded people, and anybody who does not have the mind of the family will leave the family. “

“If you are a member of a family you must remain in the family to address the issue. Let no one deceive you that we have a crisis in the Labour Party. We are in a period of transition. It is not only LP that has produced the National Caretaker Committee chairman. The former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi was the National Caretaker Committee chairman of PDP. So because we have a Caretaker Committee does not mean we have a crisis.”

” There is no crisis in the Labour Party. The composition of the party structure at the local government level, and at the state level will form the national convention where the National Chairman and other executive members will be elected. Nigerians are now wiser, they will stand with the Labour Party during the local government election,” he said.

According to him, “if the Presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi had won the election, Nigeria wouldn’t have been in hunger and hardship that the citizens are currently experiencing under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

He said Peter Obi had promised during the presidential campaign to move Nigeria from a consumption to a production nation. But unfortunately, he couldn’t make it to the presidency to enable him to fulfil the promise.

“If Peter Obi had won the election as the President of Nigeria, the scenario in our country today wouldn’t have been there. Peter Obi would have moved Nigeria from a consumption to a production nation, which he promised during his campaign as the presidential candidate of our great party. This hardship we are witnessing in the country today wouldn’t have been there with Peter Obi’s Presidency.”

“But what we are doing today is not about Peter Obi, it is about repositioning our party’s structure and leadership ahead of the 2027 general election. If the Labour Party had produced a president, what is happening in the country today wouldn’t have happened because the philosophy of the party is social justice for all citizens.”

” Look at what is happening in the oil sector, all the refineries in the country are not working. The only one that is working is that of Dangote which the government did not even allow to sell at his own price, but it is government that is fixing price for him. I never heard this kind of thing,” he said.

The State Labour Party Caretaker Committee Chairman, Yusuf Solomon Danbaki charged the party’s Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates for the forthcoming LG polls in the state, to go all out for votes and ensure victory for the party.

“This is the meeting of giving party flags to our Chairmanship candidates for the election into various local government areas in the State. The essence of this gathering is to show the candidates that we are solidly behind them. We are not only with them in words but also in action. We will also support them financially. We are doing this through fund raising, no amount is too small or too big. I want to assure you that as the captain of this ship for now, we will steer the Labour Party to victory at the local government election,” he said.

At the occasion, Mrs Nok who was a member of the NNPP and her numerous supporters, declared for the Labour Party and promised to work hard for the success of the party in subsequent elections.
