Kenyan rising star Maya Amolo strengthens her position as one of East Africa’s most compelling new voices with the release of her sophomore album, The Sweetest Time.
The project has already drawn widespread praise, offering a beautifully introspective exploration of love in all its emotional shades.
Known for her alternative R&B sound infused with afro-pop elements, Maya uses soft harmonies, soothing vocals, and deeply personal storytelling to navigate themes of love, temptation, betrayal, and healing. Her ability to blend vulnerability with melodic elegance has earned her a devoted global audience and strong support from East Africa’s creative community.
With The Sweetest Time, Maya redefines what “sweetness” means—delving into bittersweet moments, sweet revenge, indulgent romance, and the subtle complexities in between. Each track represents a chapter in love’s emotional cycle, revealing her raw thoughts, layered influences, and expressive imagination. It is a soundtrack for anyone who has loved, broken, and rebuilt themselves again.
Since her 2020 debut single “I Know,” Maya has evolved her reflections on love, self-worth, and fidelity into a distinctive artistry shaped by her life and experiences in Nairobi. Her new album traces the full journey of affection—from infatuation and deep connection to stability, heartbreak, and eventual renewal.
Maya’s rise has been amplified by recognition from platforms such as NPR, The Native Mag, OkayAfrica, Harmattan Rain, and TANGAZA Magazine. She was named Spotify Africa’s inaugural Fresh Finds artist in March 2022, participated in Spotify and COLORSxSTUDIOS’ first African writing camp in 2023, and was selected as Apple Music’s East Africa Up Next artist later that year.
The Sweetest Time features powerful collaborations with Ywaya Tajiri, Nigerian alté talent AYLØ, Albeezy, and Tai Dai.
The album is now available on all streaming platforms.
