Rotary 9141 visits Ovie of Oghara, commissions key projects

Oghara – Rotary International, renowned for its humanitarian services, has successfully held a joint fellowship with District Governor Rotarian Chiedu Ikegwuani of District 9141, alongside a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Noble Oyibo Eshemitan, Uku Oghara Name, Oreki III, the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom. The event took place at the monarch’s palace in Oghara, headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State.

The District Governor, who oversees Rotary’s activities across Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States, was accompanied by a delegation of past and present Assistant Governors, club presidents, and Rotarians from across the zone. The group was warmly received by the Ovie and the Council of Chiefs of the Oghara Kingdom.

In his address, District Governor Ikegwuani expressed his appreciation to the monarch for his unwavering support and fatherly contributions toward Rotary International. He highlighted the purpose of the visit, which was to inform His Royal Majesty about the upcoming World Polio Day, a key initiative of District 9141. The District Governor also disclosed that the district would be hosting four other districts during the exercise, and he solicited the monarch’s continued support for the cause.

In his response, His Royal Majesty, Noble Oyibo Eshemitan, expressed his excitement at the presence of Rotarians, emphasizing that Rotary is a special institution. He urged all members to rally behind the District Governor, reaffirming his commitment to Rotary’s noble objectives.

In a related development, as part of Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus for the 2024/2025 Rotary year, tagged the “Magic Year,” District 9141 has commissioned 64 burglary-proof windows and mosquito nets for the labor and maternity wards at the Central Hospital, Sapele. These initiatives align with Rotary’s focus on maternal and child health, as well as disease prevention and treatment.

The Acting Zonal Medical Director of Central Hospital Sapele, Dr. Owobu Ufuoma, received the District Governor and his team. In his remarks, Dr. Ufuoma expressed profound gratitude to Rotary International for their consistent humanitarian efforts. He noted that the organization had been a great help to the hospital over the years, and their contributions are well-documented. Dr. Ufuoma assured the team that the hospital management would continue to rely on Rotary’s support, praying for God’s blessings on their endeavors to aid humanity.

During a fellowship session, District Governor Ikegwuani, in an interview with journalists, called for increased membership in Rotary. He encouraged Rotarians to give their full support to the newly installed club presidents across the zone, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving Rotary’s goals.

Rotary International continues to make significant strides in promoting health, community development, and humanitarian services across the globe, and District 9141 remains a shining example of this commitment in Nigeria
